Father Reid Hensarling wrote in his doctoral dissertation: “Christianity claims to possess absolute, unchanging, universally valid truths about God, humanity, the problem of man, and other germane religious topics. The gospel message through the holy words of the Bible is the tool that God uses to save his people and we are called to believe and submit to his word. Absent of the gospel message is hopelessness and despair for all people since no other message can free us from our perpetual bondage to the world, the flesh, and the devil. Donald Bloesch shares what he believes the gospel is: ‘The gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners by placing them in a right relationship to God through his substitutionary sacrifice on the cross and by engrafting them into the righteousness of Christ by the purifying work of the Spirit. The gospel needs to be received in faith and repentance and demonstrated in a life of lowly service, faith working through love.’ The gospel alone has the power to bring healing and wholeness to man and his fractured world and answer his most penetrating questions and deepest needs.
